The Apps · lived

We were building seven. We stopped three.

Seven apps and two people was a list, not a plan. Three are stopped and one is set down — this page names all four rather than quietly deleting the rows. Of the three still moving, one is in private beta and two are being built, and none of them have shipped. When one does, this page will say so, and not a day earlier.

Built one at a time, well, by a two-person house. Seven half-finished apps were easier to announce and worth nothing to you — which is exactly why there are now three.

Layered eight-point Islamic lattice panels in gold, ivory and pine green, separated in space like an exploded architectural drawing.
علم ʿilm · knowledge

Every one of these exists because a Muslim needed a tool and the honest version of it did not exist yet.

How the apps relate to the house

Each keeps its own name. We publish, we do not brand over it.

Jadhr is Jadhr. Sakīnah is Sakīnah. The house is the publisher standing behind them — the line at the bottom of the screen that reads "An Inheriting Islam app." The name you trust is the app's; the accountability is ours.

Why we build them at all

Every one of these started the same way: somebody in the house needed a tool, went looking, and found either nothing or something that wanted to harvest them for using it.

So the money ethic below is not a policy page we wrote afterwards. It is the reason these exist.

The money ethic

Three rules that decide the product, not just the privacy page.

Most software says this in a policy nobody opens. It belongs here, where it can be held against us.

One

Worship is never the paywall

Where the thing being done is learning or worship, access stays free or deliberately cheap. We do not put the fard behind a purchase, and we do not ration it by tier.

Two

Convenience can carry a price

Saved time, sync, advanced tracks, and licences for schools and masajid can be paid for — by the people who can afford them, so that the people who cannot are never asked to.

Three

You are not the inventory

No surveillance advertising, no selling attention, no quiet analytics resale. We have never sold user data and never will. Where an app can run entirely on your own device, it does.

What the labels mean

Four words, defined, so they cannot be stretched.

In development

Real code exists and is being worked on. It is not installable by you yet, and we cannot promise a date we would then have to move.

Private beta

Working software, in the hands of a small number of people who know they are early. Not on any store, not open to the public yet.

Concept

A designed, thought-through idea with nothing built. We list them because we would rather show the whole plan than pretend it is further along.

Set down

Real code that runs, with nobody working on it now and every intention of coming back. It is not stopped and it is not being built — and we are only allowed to use this word because it is defined right here.

The three

What is being built, and where each one really is.

Abstract tile: nested squares tightening toward a gold centre.
Itqān إتقان
Qur'an study A mastery-based path through Qur'anic Arabic and the sacred sciences — iʿrab, the Madinah books, spaced repetition — built to be private and to work without a connection.
Abstract tile: gold lines radiating from a single point.
Jadhr جذر
Deliberately undescribed A daily habit, built on Arabic, that takes about a minute and is meant to be passed between people. We are not explaining how it works until it is in your hands — the idea is the whole product, and good ones get copied before they ship.
In development Ask to be told when it opens Tell me when it opens
Abstract tile: still, evenly balanced horizontal bands around a centred star.
Sakīnah سكينة
Halal personal finance Zakat, buckets, and recurring rules — a private money tracker that keeps your figures on your own device. We intend to sell the software, never the person using it.
Private beta Closed group, not on any store Tell me when it opens

Every app carries the line "An Inheriting Islam app." If you ever see that line on something we did not build, tell us.

What happened to the other four

Named, rather than quietly deleted.

Almost nobody publishes what they killed, which is exactly why it is worth publishing. These rows stay so that anyone who saw the old page can see what became of them — and so that the three above are believable. Three are stopped. One is set down, which is a different thing.

One reason, and it covers all four

Seven apps and two people was a list, not a plan. None of these was stopped for being a bad idea. They were stopped because attention is the only thing this house is genuinely short of, and splitting it seven ways was going to produce seven things nobody could rely on.

The three below are stopped. The fourth is set down, which is a different state with a different word, defined above.

Two of these three had real code written; one never got past a sketch. All three are stopped rather than paused — "paused" is what people say when they mean stopped and would rather not admit it. If we ever come back to one, this page will say that plainly too.

Abstract tile: a soft gold glow rising behind a flat ivory page.
NoorReader نور
Study reader A serious PDF and EPUB reader for Islamic texts, with reminders built into the reading itself rather than bolted on as notifications.
No longer being built
Abstract tile: fine gold lines branching upward through small diamond nodes.
Asanīd أسانيد
Chains of transmission A map of the isnād — every scholar and ijāza as one connected graph, every madrasah as a verified page, and your own study recorded as a node that grows it forward. Fully designed, deliberately unbuilt: it needs scholarly partners before it needs code.
No longer being built
Abstract tile: a low gold sun behind stepped ivory rooftop forms.
Sunrise Masjid
A game · working title A 2.5D platformer about Muslim life — African American, West African, and the wider ummah. The first level is a walk to the masjid at Fajr in South Los Angeles. Our children play games that never once look like them.
No longer being built

Set down, not stopped

One of them we do intend to come back to.

This one is a different case from the three above and it would be dishonest to file it with them. The code runs and it is playable. Nobody is working on it right now, and Hamza intends to return to it.

That is not the same as "in development", which would imply somebody is on it this week, and it is not stopped either. So it gets its own word, defined above so it cannot be stretched into meaning more than it does.

Abstract tile: an eight-point star outline with a single upright gold axis through its centre.
Saif al-Ummah سيف الأمة
A game An Islamic action-RPG — regions to cross, a story to carry, and a fight that asks what you are willing to become in order to win it. Playable, and a long way from finished.
Set down

If one of the stopped three was the one you wanted, say so anyway. Enough people asking is a reason to reconsider, and it is a great deal more useful to us than silence.

Be first, honestly

Tell us which one, and we will write once.

Not one list for everything. Tick the ones you actually want and you hear about those and nothing else — one email, from a person, when there is something real to open. No drip sequence, no countdown, no list rented to anyone.

Tick as many as you like — if you arrived from one of the cards above it is already ticked. The three we stopped are not listed here; use the box below if one of those was yours.

This opens your own email app with the message already written. Nothing is sent until you press send.

Why we ask which one

Seven apps and two people is not a plan, it is a list. Knowing that two hundred of you want one of these and eleven want another is the most useful thing we could possibly learn — it decides what gets built next, and it decides what gets stopped.

So this is not a marketing list. It is the thing that tells us which of these deserve to exist.

What you will not get

Nothing until there is something to open. No launch sequence, no "we are so excited to share", no reminder that we still exist. If an app you ticked gets stopped, you will be told that too — which is the email nobody else sends.
